I really hesitated to spend the money on a strangely shaped blanket that had the words amazing and miracle in its name. There were a lot of mommies online strongly recommending it, though, so I went ahead and bought one to add to my growing arsenal of ‘everything I’m going to possibly need as a first time mommy even if I discover I don’t really need it.’ I’m happy to report that this blanket has indeed served us well.
For those new to swaddling (like we were), it can be quite a puzzling thing to figure out. We practiced it on a doll in our newborn class, watched Harvey Karp’s dudu method of doing it on The Happiest Baby on The Block DVD, and it was demonstrated to us a number a times by the nurses in the hospital. Turns out, it’s just so much easier to swaddle a baby when it’s in the form of a doll. I suppose it’s similar to wrapping gifts; some people are just natural gift wrappers (not us) and others just do the best they can and end up stuffing the gift into a gift bag (us). The Amazing Miracle Blanket was our gift bag, and it worked. The kid went in and stayed in, and the end result was a neatly swaddled baby. This was, and still is, the only way Pooky would sleep without continuously waking up through the night.
GooGa Tip: If your baby starts outgrowing the blanket in length, just stop tucking the legs into the pocket, and it’ll still work.
