Check Out those Eyes

Did you know that a baby’s eyes are about 75% the size of an adult’s? Their eyes are much larger in relation to their faces than adults’ eyes are. It’s part of what makes them so cute. Despite this fact, the eyes are woefully neglected when it comes to babies’ health. Well, a public health organization called InfantSEE is trying to change that, and they want you to know that it’s important to get your babies’ eyes checked before their first birthday. In fact, if you find a participating optometrist, this first exam is free (link to Dr. Locator below). As they say, early detection is key.

Many eye conditions have no symptoms that can be identified by a parent or in a well baby check-up. Early detection is the best way to ensure your child has healthy eyes and appropriate development of vision- now and in the future.

I, for one, haven’t given very much thought to Pooky’s eye health. This is probably something we should do.
