Pooky’s Favorite Things

Pooky has a tiny bin of toys right now filled with a cloth book, teething toy, mini Whoozit, a Skwish rattle, and a set of oversized plastic toy keys that make the most annoying movement-activated noises (without an off button). She goes through phases with each of these items, preferring one or two items over the others depending on her mood. Lately, her favorite things to play with aren’t any of these items. Here’s a photo of what’s been keeping her attention:

Pooky's Favorite Things

Pictured from left to right:

  1. The cover of a mini paperback booklet of rhymes that was mailed to us from the Public Library after she was born
  2. A toilet paper tube
  3. A Target receipt
  4. Shiny, crinkly-sounding envelope that contained a small booklet mailed to me from Google

I think Pooky is going through a “textures” phase. She likes the different feel of these items instead of the cloth or plastic feel of her toys. I think it’s great and definitely much more economical; I can spare a receipt or toilet paper tube every now and then.

Most toys try to be a little bit of everything by incorporating as many bells and whistles as possible. This toy is a little bit of everything by leaving as much out as possible. It’s a nice change of pace. Of course, I’m sure there are things lying around your house that would serve the same purpose, but if you’re in the mood to spend some money on something shiny, this should hit the spot. Price: $28 [...]
