I’ve always been a difficult person to shop for. When people ask me what I want for the holidays, I don’t know what to say. Or, I didn’t, until Pooky came along. Now I just tell people that I wear size 6-9 months and hope they get the hint. A present for Pooky is really a present for me, especially if it’s something I’ll get a kick out of.
Like, for instance, a little Oakland A’s jersey. Like so many people, and to May’s constant annoyance, the teams I root for are an important part of my identity, a part of me that I would love to pass on. When my parents flew in to visit the weekend after Pooky was born, one of the first questions my dad asked was “Is she going to be an A’s fan?” I can’t wait for Pooky to be old enough to join in. It may sound silly, but to us, it matters.
All of which is to say, I bet some sports fan in your life would love to get a sports-related baby item as a present. Just something to consider with the holidays coming up. One word of advice, though: I wouldn’t recommend any Raiders gear. It pains me to say it, but they’re so bad this year I think even babies would be too embarrassed to wear it.
