Childcare - We Don’t Get It

We’ve been trying to make it work out financially so that I can continue to stay at home with Pooky. Well, it’s the end of the year, and my web development business has been slow, and I haven’t had the time or energy to put in the marketing efforts into it that’s needed. I’ve been dreading this, but come next year, we’re going to start looking into daycare options in preparation for the possibility of me having to go work outside of the home.

An issue that Josh and I have brought up in the past is daycare when there’s no daycare. We don’t get it. I mean, what happens when the daycare is closed or when you have kids in school, and the school is closed during vacations, snow days, etc.? Paul reminded me of this with his post describing how he was scrambling to search for childcare the day before a possible snow day. Is that basically how it works? You search for alternatives or you end up having to call into work and stay at home with the children? This seems like such a hassle, especially once your kids are in school with all those school days off here and there.

I really wish there were more employers who offer on-site childcare options. I also really hope I might be able to squeeze out a bit more time at home so that we can delay addressing the childcare issue.
