P is for Punk

P is for Punk

Well, there’s no denying that we’re grown-ups anymore. Before Pooky was born, even though I was a married, home-and-car-owning, rapidly-approaching-30, working stiff, I could still kinda, sorta convince myself that I hadn’t yet reached adulthood; that I still had more of my pre-adult life to live. Now, there’s no getting around it. This is it. We’re here. The good news is, I love it. Having a daughter has made being a grown-up not only palatable, but the best time of my life. It’s a much different kind of life, but in a totally wonderful way.

This doesn’t mean I have to leave the old me behind completely, though. I just have to find new ways to express myself. Ways that involve my family. We’ve traded in going out to watch a band in a smoky club for staying in and listening to Carole King with Pooky. Still, the spirit of our pre-parent lives can live on in little ways. Like, with this P is for Punk shirt from Wee Rock.

I love it for a number of reasons. First, it’s the only dark piece of clothing Pooky has. I didn’t notice the total lack of black in her wardrobe until we put this on her. It’s a cool and welcome change from the pink and purple. It says, “Don’t mess with me. I am a bad baby.” Second, its design harkens back to the days of the Sex Pistols, when Punk was truly revolutionary. Pooky and I are much more partial to the early punk bands. Pooky’s not even sure she would consider bands like Green Day and Blink 182 punk at all. Most importantly, there’s nothing quite like popping Pooky into this onesie, blasting the Ramones, and singing along: “Hey! Ho! Let’s Go!” It just doesn’t get any better than that.

P is for Punk is available in a tee or onesie from Wee Rock. And if punk isn’t quite your style, they also carry tees and onesies for the rock, metal, country, disco, and rockabilly crowds. Price: $18-22.
