Mama Drama at the Weblog Awards

The 2006 Weblog Awards are in, and the winner in the category of Best Parenting Blog is… Breed ‘Em And Weep! Coming in a very close second was RockStar Mommy. I’ve never heard of either of these blogs, which isn’t surprising since I hadn’t even heard of Technorati until May showed me, but, in the time I’ve had to peruse them, both seem thoughtful and well-written.

Unfortunately, during the voting process, some harsh words were written, some accusations were made, and some feelings got hurt (look for jimbo’s comments in this post, unless you’re bothered by spicy language). It should be noted that the bloggers themselves remained above the fray; the blame, if there is any, goes to a couple of overzealous commenters. From what I can tell, no real offense was meant by anyone, yet offense was (understandably) taken. The irony of the situation was not lost on Breed ‘Em And Weep author Jenn Mattern: “there is something simultaneously wildly funny and horrendously depressing about terms like cheating slut being bandied about in the category of Best Parenting Blog.” You should definitely read the full poignant post, in which she tries to find some humanity in the blogosphere.

Anyway, I was glad to see that in the end RockStar Mommy congratulated Jenn on her award and her blog. One good lesson for the kids in all of this: after a fight, hug and make up.
