Who’s Ready for More?

Here’s an interesting post from BloggingBaby asking what the best gap in ages between siblings is. We won’t be having another baby (on purpose) any time soon, but we’re already strategizing. I’m sure there’s a ton of research on the topic, but I doubt any of it will affect our decision much. May and I are both the oldest, although I only have one sibling (sister, three years younger), and she has seven (five sisters, two brothers, youngest one is six).

Here are some advantages I see of waiting at least three years between kids:

  • Avoiding double diaper duty
  • The older child has a better understanding of what’s happening and can ask questions
  • The “parent-of-a-baby” period lasts longer

On the other hand, here’s my list of pros for having kids closer together in age:

  • Ending the diaper era sooner
  • The kids are more likely to play together

The only thing I know for sure is that I don’t want the age gap to be huge. I’m not sure I could handle the sleepless nights and all the worrying once I get much older. I’m barely coping as it is.
