I really wish I had someone giving me this advice when I had my daughter 2 1/2 years ago. I didn't, and I registered for and bought a whole bunch of gear I either didn't need or wish I had done more research on.

Mostly, I wish I had spent more time looking at customer reviews of products, and actually using the stuff in the store. For example, the travel systems - I got one that is oversized and very heavy. What a waste. It is so heavy to move in and out of the car. I have a mid-sized SUV, and it takes up most of that trunk. I plan to get rid of it for our next child. Every time I use my stroller I hope it is somehow broken so we have to get rid of it and get something different.

You are right on about the bedding sets, too. From the start, the quilt stayed folded neatly in the closet. Shortly after Gabby was born, I found out the bumpers were a SIDS risk and pulled those out. Once the diapers got too large for the diaper stacker, that too ended up in the closet (plus, there wasn't really any good place to hang it, except on the side of the crib, but once she was able to move around and grab things, then that didn't work, either). So the great bedding set really ended up being a fitted sheet, dust ruffle, and window valence. All of those items could have been purchased separately for much less money.

One additional note on the wipe warmer: I've heard they're the prime place for bacteria. It's dark, warm, and moist. That's one of the main reasons I didn't get one. I understand the desire to make everything comfortable and perfect for baby, but I'd rather not have a bacterial breeding ground wiped all over their diaper areas.
