Our baby has a bed. It’s called Mommy and Daddy’s bed. She prefers it to her crib. For us, though, it can be a bit crowded. Since she insists on sleeping perpendicular to us, one of us has to face her feet while the other faces the top of her head. Either way poses a problem. She gets pretty kicky when she sleeps, making her feet hazardous. On the other hand, she’ll wake up and scream for attention at least a couple of times each night, which is hard on the ears of whoever is closest to her head. Still, for now I don’t mind. I love to wake up and listen to her snore and gaze at her perfect little face as she dreams.
One day in the not-too-distant future, though, Pooky’s going to have to move on out into a bed of her own such as this one, from Nurseryworks. It costs a pretty penny ($1,490 for the model shown above), but there are a couple of things I love about it. First, the humongous drawer that slides underneath. Perfect for frantically cramming all the clothes and toys littering the floor when an in-law drops by unexpectedly. Second, it’s modern-looking and sleek. The austere straight angles and lack of curves are right up my alley, aesthetically. If you like the style but not the stark black-and-white color scheme, fret not. There are many color options from which to choose.
