The Rockin Baby Shopping Cart Covers come in some rockin fabric choices (as do all the other Rockin Kid Shop products). The fabric of the one pictured is a mixed blue vintage paisley corduroy with a solid dark teal quilted corduroy on the other side (and yes, it’s reversible). It’s definitely very durable, soft and doesn’t scream “cutesy baby item” with its more sophisticated fabric designs. Okay, enough with how great it looks - how well does it function?
It has light padding. This means it’s not very bulky, but it also means it’s not as plush for baby - works for me, though. It has a series of fabric loops sewn in around the handle bar area for all those toys to entertain baby. The cover has elastic on the outer edges which is how you “attach” it to the cart. I found that dealing with the elastic on all sides made it a bit trickier to put it on with one hand (since the other one is holding baby). Sorta like putting on a fitted mattress sheet. It was also a bit awkward getting it to cover some of the side edges of this particular shopping cart we were using because the elastic just didn’t want to go over and stay over those parts as easily. However, it did what it needed to do after a bit of maneuvering.
It comes with a pocket that’s a bit hard to access and use because it’s essentially the front part that’s rolled over the handle bars (an upside-down pocket?). This pocket, though, is supposed to be how you store the cover - just fold it into the built-in pocket. That’s a bit easier said than done. It took a good amount of rolling and pulling and twisting and shoving to get the cover into the pocket, and once it’s in, you’ll definitely need two hands to pop it out and unfold it. My suggestion is to not use the pocket for that purpose and just toss it as-is into your car. If you’re packing it up for a trip, it would be worth the time to shove it into the pocket since, once it’s in, it’s pretty compact and looks very cute.
My main issue with the Rockin Baby Shopping Cart Cover, though, was that it came with a built-in safety restraint that wasn’t working for us. We tightened it onto Pooky, but it would easily slip and loosen with every move she made.
Overall, it’s a simple, great looking shopping cart cover without a lot of bulk or bells and whistles. I’m all for simplicity when it comes to things like these. I do wish, however, that the functionalities it does have built into it worked a bit better and more smoothly. Price: $60-87 at the Rockin Kid Shop.
