There is so much emphasis on separating “girl” items from “boy” items. We went to the store the other week to find a moving toy, such as a car, for Pooky. We found a small Thomas the Tank Engine toy in the section labeled “Boy Toys.” C’mon now, why does this social conditioning need to start so early? After all, our babies are going to be surrounded by it the rest of their lives.
These Boy and Girl onesies from London-based Twisted Twee make a great statement about societal assumptions and expectations for boys and girls. Pink on a boy and blue on a girl? Scandalous! And oh so refreshing! Put it on your baby and watch how people react. Unfortunately, I’m afraid a lot of people probably wouldn’t take it very well. Price: £16.
