The state of our little family, in the style of Time Magazine’s Milestones section. Just because.
Goofy: Pooky’s poses when she sees the camera pointed at her. I don’t know how, but she seems to know what the camera is for, and she loves to ham it up.
Trying to be vigilant: May and I, as Pooky [...]

Dr. Harvey Karp, of “The Happiest Baby on the Block” fame, says toddlers are basically miniature Neanderthals. Pooky can grunt like a little caveman, but I can’t picture her hunting a woolly mammoth.
LA Times columnist Joel Stein is happy for you. He just doesn’t want to see your baby pictures (registration required). What a grouch. [...]

The state of our little family, in the style of Time Magazine’s Milestones section. Just because.
Freaked Out: Us, about putting Pooky in day care when May goes back to work. We’ve visited one place so far and are discouraged. It seemed dirty, disorganized, and, with a dog running around freely, a little bit dangerous. Plus, [...]

Shocking results from a 20-year study: cranky babies grow up to be insecure lovers. I have very little faith in the conclusions of such a study (how do they measure lovers’ insecurity?), but I don’t even want to think about this one.
The latest trend in nursery decoration: rooms that grow gracefully with the child.
I would [...]
On Leaving Baby
Posted by Josh on February 12th, 2007Filed under: Just Babbling, Parenthood.
It’s always nerve-wracking when we’re both away from baby. We’re still the only two people she’s totally comfortable with, so we know that the situation will be stressful for her (by “stressful for her”, I mean she’ll cry and scream). Of course, that makes it stressful for the babysitter, and the whole thing is stressful [...]

What if you could get your baby vaccinated against ever being addicted to cocaine, heroin or tobacco? Would you do it? One day, you might have that choice.
Pooky loooooves carrots. I hope she doesn’t eat so many that she turns orange.
One researcher is studying the way babies think. One conclusion: they love to push buttons.
I [...]

They say parents shouldn’t use the TV as a babysitter. So far, we haven’t… much. If you’re going to put the kid in front of the TV, though, you can at least make it a somewhat valuable experience.
In a survey looking for the “most unpopular noises,” crying babies came in tied for third. I don’t [...]
Happy Belated Birthday, Elvis
Posted by May on January 9th, 2007Filed under: For Baby's Feet, Just Babbling, Product Guide & Reviews.
Yesterday was Elvis’ birthday.
I was actually a huge Elvis fan as a kid. Yes, he died the month that I was born, but that didn’t matter to me. It didn’t matter because I actually thought he was alive. Don’t write me off as crazy. I didn’t think he was alive as in “Elvis is alive.” [...]
My Mother’s Worry, My Stress
Posted by Josh on January 8th, 2007Filed under: Just Babbling, Parenthood.
A few weeks ago I said something to my mom I immediately wished I could take back. Just making conversation, without really thinking, I mentioned that Pooky’s legs seem very strong. “Maybe she’ll skip crawling and go straight to walking,” I mused. There was a pause, during which I could almost hear my mom’s worry [...]
